WINEBOW CASE - LARGEST DISCIPLINARY CASE SETTLEMENT EVER

At the October 19, 2011 Full Board meeting the Members of the Authority accepted a Conditional No Contest Plea offer from Winebow, Inc., a New Jersey based wine wholesaler, in full satisfaction of a Notice of Pleading containing ten charges for numerous discriminatory and anti-competitive market behaviors as well as for failing to cooperate with an SLA investigation. The terms included a $600,000 civil penalty and a deferred 30 day suspension (the suspension only becomes effective if, within 18 months of the imposition of the penalty, there are new, similar violations committed by Winebow). It is the single largest civil penalty ever paid to the State Liquor Authority for an administrative disciplinary case.
