Renew Your License

Renew Your License

You will receive a renewal advisory approximately three months prior to the expiration of your license as a reminder.

The Renewal Process

You will receive a renewal advisory approximately three months prior to the expiration of your license as a reminder to renew your license. The renewal advisory will include the total fees due to renew your license. A renewal application must be filed before the expiration of the current license period. Please allow 10 business days for processing of your renewal application.

In your renewal application, you must report any changes of information, such as a change in your residential address or any arrests or convictions that have not been reported to the SLA. The only change that can be made during the renewal process is the Trade Name (DBA) change. Please do not use the renewal application to include changes that require SLA approval, such as changes to the principals of the license or any physical changes to the establishment.

You must mail your completed renewal application, your renewal advisory, the appropriate fee and all other required documents to the address below:

M&T Bank Lockbox

New York State Liquor Authority

PO Box 8000-Dept 930

Buffalo, New York 14267

Note - 3/12/21: Due to current USPS delays, renewals which are time sensitive should be sent by alternative carriers (FedEx, UPS, etc) to:

M & T Bank Lockbox Customer Support

Attention: Lockbox 8000930

626 Commerce Drive

Amherst, NY 14228

Applications sent to any other address will be returned and will delay the processing of your renewal.

If you file a complete renewal application before the expiration of your current license period, you will receive either:

  1. A new license certificate for the next licensing period;
  2. A letter explaining why your application was denied.

Any deficiency in the application or failure to provide all supporting documentation will delay the processing of your renewal, or may lead to the disapproval of your renewal.

If your application is not complete, or you don't file it before the expiration of the current license period, you will not be able to sell alcoholic beverages once your current license expires.

Retailers

The term of your license depends on the type of license you have. If you have a retail license to sell only beer for on-premises or off-premises consumption, your license lasts for three years. Off-premises liquor and wine licenses (liquor and wine stores) are also issued for three years. On-premises wine and liquor licenses are issued for two years. If you have a seasonal license, it must be renewed every year. The renewal form for retailers can be found in the documents below.

If you have an on-premises beer, wine or liquor license in one of the five boroughs of New York City, you must notify your Community Board of your intent to renew your license at least 30 days before filing your renewal application with the SLA. The notice must be sent using the Standardized Notice Form below, and can be sent using certified mail, an overnight delivery service, by personal delivery, or via e-mail provided the municipality or community board elects to accept notices via email to your Community Board. Find out more about e-mail notification here.

You must submit the completed Standardized Notice Form and proof of delivery to the SLA with your completed renewal application.

If sending in a late renewal application, please make sure to submit the completed Late Renewal Requirements Form for Retailers with your renewal application.
