New restriction in the hours of sale in Essex County

All licensed premises that sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises must now close at 3:00 a.m. This change is effective immediately.

On June 19, 2013, the State Liquor Authority amended the hours for the sale of alcoholic beverages in Essex County as follows:

The sale of alcoholic beverages at retail for on-premises consumption is prohibited during the following hours:
• On Sunday, from 3:00 a.m. until noon; and
• On Monday through Saturday from 3:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m.

The restriction on the sale for off-premises consumption Good Friday has been removed, and the sale of alcoholic beverages at retail for off-premises consumption is prohibited during the following hours:

• Weekdays 12:00 midnight to 8:00 a.m.;
• Sundays from 12:00 midnight to 12:00 noon and 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight;
• Christmas Eve, no sales allowed after 11:00 p.m.; and
• Christmas Day.
